Christ the King Statue (Optional)
For those who enjoy a bit of exercise and panoramic rewards, you may choose to take on the 900-step climb to reach the 32-meter-tall Christ the King Statue, whose arms span 18.3 meters. From the shoulder platform, the 360° views over Vung Tau’s city, beaches, and turquoise waters are truly breathtaking. Guests who prefer a gentler pace can relax at the base, enjoy the sea breeze, and capture beautiful photos of the statue against the skyline.
Nirvana Pagoda (Niet Ban Tinh Xa)
Step into one of Vung Tau’s most tranquil sanctuaries, perched gracefully on the hillside overlooking the sparkling East Sea. The Nirvana Pagoda, known locally as Niet Ban Tinh Xa, is famed for its magnificent Lying Buddha statue, stretching an impressive 12 meters in serene repose. Intricate carvings and delicate details on the statue’s robe reflect the artistry of local craftsmen.
Climb to the upper level to ring the giant bronze bell, its deep, resonant sound echoing across the coastline, a tradition believed to bring blessings of peace, health, and good fortune. From here, enjoy sweeping views of the bay framed by palm trees and fishing boats below.
White Palace (Bach Dinh)
Journey back in time at the White Palace, an elegant French-colonial mansion built in 1898. Once the luxurious summer retreat for Emperor Bao Dai, Vietnam’s last monarch, this bright, ivory-colored building exudes both grandeur and nostalgia.
Wander through its airy verandas and high-ceilinged rooms adorned with vintage furniture, antique ceramics, and historical photographs. Outside, stroll through the lush gardens dotted with frangipani and bougainvillea, and pause at the balcony for a breathtaking view of the shimmering coastline.
Local Lunch
Indulge in a flavor-packed Vietnamese lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant. Enjoy freshly caught seafood alongside fragrant jasmine rice, crispy spring rolls, and seasonal vegetables sautéed in garlic. Each dish is a celebration of Vung Tau’s coastal bounty and southern culinary traditions.
Whale Temple (Lang Ong Nam Hai)
Uncover the fascinating maritime heritage of Vung Tau at the Whale Temple, a sacred site for local fishermen. Here, you’ll find the giant skeleton of a whale that washed ashore more than a century ago, preserved as a guardian spirit of the sea.
Learn about the unique whale-worshipping tradition, deeply rooted in the belief that these gentle giants protect fishermen from storms and guide them safely home. The temple’s colorful altars, incense-scented air, and offerings of fruit and flowers create a deeply spiritual atmosphere.
Vung Tau Lighthouse
Enjoy your second chance of a panoramic view of the city at the Vung Tau Lighthouse. With its peak located 170 meters above sea level, the Lighthouse is widely regarded as the most interesting landmark in the city. If you’d like, arrange for a 10-minute motorbike ride to the top.
Return to Port
As the afternoon sun casts a golden glow over Vung Tau, relax in your comfortable vehicle for the scenic drive back to Phu My Port or Vung Tau Port, arriving in good time for your cruise departure. Along the way, take one last glance at the fishing boats bobbing gently in the bay, carrying with you the sights, sounds, and stories of this charming seaside town.
